Did you know that the diet of a panda is made up almost ENTIRELY of bamboo? We learned all about pandas, including what kind of animals they are (omnivorous mammals!), what they eat (bamboo!), and where they live (they are native to China!). Giant pandas first became endangered in 1990 due to excessive poaching and habitat deforestation, depleting their bamboo food source. Pandas went from endangered to vulnerable in 2016 according to the World Wildlife Fund. Although this means that the panda population is steadily growing, we still have to work to protect them!
